ALDI has some surprisingly good chocolates. This is one of them. Without saying another word about these, they are really really good.
If you’re on a budget pick up one of these as a holiday present for your kid’s teacher. If you’re not on a budget, get two. They’re worth half a grade point on the kid’s next report card. Cheaper than a tutor!

These are very elegant mild dark chocolate truffles with a delicate amaretto flavor. Many many small pieces of nuts and Amoretti cookies inside the truffles give these a surprising, unique and good mouthfeel and taste.
One downside is that the very small pieces tend to stick between teeth and even between tooth and gum. That may leave a desire to brush or floss soon after eating. A second downside is that these are a seasonal item. It may not be until next December when we see them again.
The packaging is as elegant as the chocolate. Each truffle is individually wrapped in a shiny paper with a twisty flourish above the truffle. If put out on a tray, the wrapping helps reduce any concerns about how many people picked up and then put down the truffle.

These are good without being overly exceptional. That’s an odd statement even for me.
There’s a nice bit of chocolate that lives somewhere between a milk and a dark chocolate at the heart of each truffle. There’s no WOW factor to them. They’re relatively inexpensive for the amount of chocolate in the box. And for that price should we expect a WOW factor? The texture in the mouth is smooth and melty. The dusting of cocoa powder adds a bit of taste contrast to the milder chocolate center. Overall these are a very competent chocolate if your chocolate tastes lean towards the milder side of dark chocolate. One won’t, but two or three should help satisfy your chocolate craving. Brandy, I knew her from the old neighborhood. That’s right Brandy Beans. She and Ben, her brother, lived with their parents in the apartment building down the street on the second floor. Right above them on the 3rd floor were the Shaws. You remember Charlie, now old Charles Shaw, don’t you?

Dark chocolate covered liquid center cherries are my favorite treat. Come gift-giving holidays, the family gets off cheaply as this is my usual present. But no complaints. Will the addition of alcohol to the mix make these even better?

Thick, creamy, sweet swirls – this couldn’t be better. Rather than a whole cheese cake which takes up a considerable amount of space in the freezer, there are two cheesecake slices in this much smaller packaging. The slices may seem to be on the small side, but when considering the 310 calories per slice and the feeling of satisfaction after eating, the size is just about perfect.
The cheesecake part is slightly tart, as cheesecake should be. The nice tasting strawberry swirls add some sweetness when encountered. The cheesecake sits on a graham cracker crust. At a dollar per slice this is more than worth the extra time spent at the gym to work off those calories.

For the mildly adventurous this is the more flavorful cousin to Trader Joe’s Steak & Ale Pies. Similarly, this pie heats up nicely in the microwave. While a little chewy, the crust is not soggy after heating. Considering it was heated in a microwave, the nicely flavored crust is fairly crispy. Instructions for oven heating are also included.

There’s nothing very special going on here. These were on the shelf for what used to be ALDI’s Oktoberfest, but in September. That generally means they won’t be around until next spring (Mayfest?) and next autumn. As stated on the label these are shortbread cookies. They’re a little on the sweetish side for shortbread. Additionally, as you can see, they’re half coated with coconut sprinkled milk chocolate. If you like shortbread cookies, and shortbread crumbs on your shirt, blouse or sweater, these will suffice just as well as any.

Silky smooth versus little crunchies, that’s the choice between these two white chocolates. Both of these were rescues. That’s right, in helping reduce food wastage both were rescued from the clearance rack. These will fill you with love almost as much as that rescued pound puppy while tasting considerably better than that lick on the lips. And I’m sure that works equally well from the puppy’s point of view.

The key word in this recipe is With. Resist any temptation to make it in your coffee maker.
This will help explain why almost all cooking directions for oatmeal are misleading. It will also help eliminate 72.3% of expletives heard around breakfast time.
