Sriracha Sauce has had its 15 minutes of fame. Like many other “instant” successes, Sriracha is still around even if not as prominent. Many companies have gotten on the Sriracha bandwagon over the last few years with their own Sriracha labeled product variants. Unfortunately many times these variants lose something in the translation. This chip is one product where much of the label has made its way into the product.
If you’re familiar with Red Hot Riplets chips, this compares in a tamer way. Instead of “dumbing down” the Sriracha flavor and heat to meet the lowest common denominator of the purchasing public, this chip retains a unique flavor and a heat which is above average for a chip. While spicier than most chips, the heat here is still in the mild to medium range. The lattice cut also adds a nice firm crunchy texture to the chip. I needed to buy two bags of these chips to do this review. The first bag had very little seasoning. The second bag had more seasoning, but still on the light side. In other words, there wasn’t very much of that sour cream and onion flavor in either bag. Other than the seasoning, these are nicely done chips – thin, cooked perfectly, and not very salty. At $1.39 per bag they’re not much more than a 1 ounce bag from a vending machine. But if you’re looking for that sour cream and onion flavor, you may be disappointed with these chips. Calories 150/1 ounce (about 13 chips) Price $1.39 per 9.5 ounce bag

Trader Joe’s Cheddar & Horseradish Potato Chips
$1.99 wasn’t too much to lose. With a flavor combo like this on the bag, I couldn’t leave them on the shelf. Curiosity got the better part of me. Maybe it was the worst part, because it sure didn’t turn out so well.

If these were labeled gourmet or craft chips, we’d easily be paying 3 times their current price. But they’re not. So get them while they’re hot, hot, hot.
