Goat Milk Cheddar Cheese – Trader Joe’s

The good things are, this neither smells nor tastes like a wet goat.

This is another white Cheddar cheese, as opposed to the usual yellow color of a domestic US Cheddar.  I’m assuming this is domestically produced as there is no country of origin on the label.  The package says this is a soft mellow Cheddar cheese.  That’s exactly what it is, with one exception.  The taste defies expectations for how a Cheddar tastes.  More simply, it doesn’t taste like a Cheddar.

What this is, is a nice mellow tasting softish cheese that is not going to provoke dislikes from many people.  While it’s mellow tasting, it’s not bland.  There’s some complexity to the taste that’s hard to pin down.  It melted easily in the microwave, which also enhanced the flavor some.  Although not tried, it should make a good addition to a grilled sandwich.  Of course, it’s perfect for nibbling too.

It summary, congratulations to the goats for making such a nice cheese.
