Want your pee to smell like coffee?  This will do it.

Actually mostly any coffee will do the same.  If you’ve never noticed it, I don’t suggest you bend over to get a closer sniff.  Especially in a public place.  And don’t expect to notice it immediately after your twenty-something still-lives-at-home son has vacated the bathroom after a night at the local pub celebrating Mardi Gras.  And if you never notice it, you really haven’t missed much.

But what about the coffee?  The first taste confirms this is a typical Starbucks roast.  There’s a strong taste that lingers on the tongue.  The best description of the taste is, sort of burnt.  Other than that there’s nothing else, like a bad else,  lingering.  There’s a mouth feel that makes you want to chew.  On the label, Starbucks refers to that as smooth.  As the beans are fairly oily (like all dark roasts), your coffee grinder will need cleaning more often.

Overall, there’s nothing really bad about the flavor.  It’s a decent tasting dark roast coffee.  It’s just going to be a preference thing as to whether you like your coffee to taste like this, or how much you want to adulterate the coffee to make the coffee easier on the taste buds.  If you like Starbucks coffee, you’ll probably like this.  If you don’t like Starbucks, this won’t change your mind.

Of note is the “ethical coffee sourcing” statement on the package. Are the coffee trees free-range and humanely euthanized before the beans are butchered from the bark?  Like similar statements from other companies, it’s a little difficult to figure out exactly what this means.  Ethical sourcing seems to be an internal Starbucks program in collaboration with a couple of outside organizations.  Here’s a URL explaining their policy.

Personally I like Starbucks Christmas Blend or the Pee-berry. Oops Peaberry one when they have it.
