This is an ALDI “while quantities last” special. They could last a long time if my bottle is representative of the wine.
A nice slightly sweet fruity aroma escapes the bottle as the difficult cork finally pops out. Escape is the correct word as that’s the last you’ll find in the bottle. If the intense cherry flavor of an old fashion cough syrup were taken away, what would be left might be similar to this wine. That’s not a good thing. The astringent comparison continues as an unwelcome feeling is left on the roof of the mouth after the wine passes to the throat.
The wine improves somewhat after being exposed to air. But the astringent taste is still there, only less of it. It’s not very pleasant.
Overall, if I were looking for an inoffensive pleasant white wine that most people would like, I’d go with the ALDI Landshut Riesling.
Price – around $6 (lost the receipt)
