Tuella Douro – 2012 – Trader Joe’s – Wine Review

by

Tuella_DouroToday’s review is a wine from Portugal.

There’s not much in the way of an aroma when the bottle is first uncorked.  Of note is just a hint of something that would suggest an everyday table wine.  And indeed  that’s the way the wine also tastes.   A touch plus of tannins leave the roof of the mouth a little dry and the texture a little rough.  The wine gently warms the body.

This is a wine to drink with dinner, not at a dinner.  The distinction here is that with dinner is at home with the family or friends maybe even the extended family.  It’s something that’s passed around the table and serves to wash down the food and amp up the conversation.  Maybe it’s poured into a wine glass or maybe it’s poured into a water tumbler.  It doesn’t matter.  It’s an integral part of the everyday meal and not something that’s savored on its own merits at a dinner somewhere else that’s probably costing much more than it’s really worth.

This is not to say this is not a good wine.  It is a good wine.  In fact it’s most likely better than the $30  bottle of wine you’re going to buy at a dinner.  If you were to slip and order it at a dinner, you’d still be okay.

We know where to drink this, but then, what to drink it with?  This will hold up very well to any stronger tasting dish.  Or maybe we should say, stronger tasting dishes will hold up to this wine.  For example, give it a try with barbecue.  Who said you need beer with barbecue?  It is likely to overpower milder dishes, such as most white fish or shrimp.

Good wine.  Good price.  What’s not to like?

Price $6.99
