Turkey Vulture

Found this guy sitting on top of a large dead tree on my way home from World Eagle Day (more about that later).

Unfortunately I only had my 50-200 mm lens with me, so there’s a big crop factor here from the original.  But still not bad, considering.

Never saw one before, but found out later turkey vultures are the most wide-spread of the New World vultures, covering just about all of North and South America and areas close by.  Also discovered they can nest in hollow dead trees.  This was a big hollow dead tree.  So there might be a nest there?

Turkey vultures get their name from their heads, which resemble male turkey heads.  If you open the picture in a new tab and zoom in, you’ll get a better idea of what they look like.
