Are your recipes smarter than a fifth grader? Not this one.
It started with salsa. It ended in pasta. What do we do with a salsa that seems more like a pasta sauce? Put it on pasta.
Having determined previously that the ALDI Casa Mamita Medium Salsa was just an okay salsa with some rich tomato flavor, the thought came to mind, what if we tried it on pasta?
The result was interesting. Preemptively, I added a teaspoon of garlic powder to the salsa, just to kick it up a notch. Surprisingly, the salsa on pasta tasted spicier than just the salsa on tortilla chips. Whether this was from the garlic, warming up the salsa or removing the tortilla chips, or my imagination, we’ll never know or care to know.
Once used to the fact that the taste is different than what you expect from pasta and tomato sauce, it’s not bad. After a few bites, you may even learn to like it.
Ingredients
1 – 24 ounce jar ALDI Casa Mamita Medium Salsa
1 teaspoon garlic powder
cooked pasta
Instructions
Cook pasta al dente according to package directions. A jar of salsa is good for about 1/2 pound of pre-cooked pasta.
While the pasta cooks, empty the salsa into a small pot. Stir in the garlic. Heat to a simmer.
When the pasta is done, spoon the salsa over the pasta. Eat.
