ALDI – Bremer Shepherd’s Pie – Food Review

This was surprisingly good.  The mashed potatoes topping the beef were okay. But the beef mixture underneath the potatoes was very tasty.  Tasty is one thing that’s missing from many frozen packaged items targeted to the customers’ lowest common denominator taste buds.  This is an exception.  The beef mixture was very beefy.  It also had that comfort food quality to it.  It’s something I’ll probably pick up again.

This was prepared in the microwave.  The 22 minute microwave time on the box proved more than adequate in my mid-sized microwave to reach well past the required 165 degree finished temperature.  Some of the mashed potatoes on the edges actually started to brown.  There are directions for oven cooking also which will set you back around 55 minutes.

ALDI, bremer, shepherds pie, price, review, calories, nutritionIt was difficult to remove a portion from the cooking container to the plate in the nicely layered way it appears in the box.  The beef mixture on the bottom was a little soupy and didn’t hold together well.  Oven cooking may firm up everything better, but no promises made.  Regardless, the flavor was nice.

The box suggests 4 servings per package.  However, if this is the only thing you’ll be having, that’s not going to be much of a meal.  More realistically this is enough for two people.  For 2 people, at $3 per serving, this is not a bad deal for a comforting filling dinner.  Heck, there’s even some corn, peas and carrots floating around with the beef.

Price $5.99 – 30 oz (851g) package

i used to get it often, then had trouble finding it. now i found some again, but it let me down. it was a smaller box, food not as high in the cooking tray as before i think, and where did the vegetables go? i will not be trying it again for awhile. i have better ways of getting meat and potatoes.

Thanks for adding your recent experience. I’ll look for it on my next trip there. Unfortunately that seems to be the trend, portions get smaller and prices get bigger.

I was wanting to try a Costco Shepherds Pie that costs over $20! This at $7.99 was very good and satisfied! Admittedly Costco’s is huge but Aldi’s was perfect for 2 people

Thanks for adding the two comments Frank. I haven’t seen it recently in my local Aldi. I hope it returns here soon. And I hope food prices start going back down even sooner?

Thanks for the information. That confirms what I suspected. Let’s hope the staff is kind and leaves a few for the customers when the weather gets cooler.

I though it was pretty good for $5.99. however, I have to agree with Lin Lauer, there were like 5 or 6 kernels of corn, nothing else. The picture on the box is pretty deceiving. Knowing this, I will likely buy it again but, with the idea that I will need to make a side dish of veggies.

We had Bremer Shepherd’s pie for the first time this evening and loved it. I am amazed at the complaints about this dish; especially the complaint about it missing a pastry crust. Shepherd’s pie never has a crust. The beef filling is very hearty. This is exceptional for a frozen entree.

It’s okay, but WHY do they have to put YEAST EXTRACT in it? Many people cannot tolerate yeast extract. Too bad…so sad. Wouldn’t salt and pepper do the trick?

Inoven baked 55 min. Very watery and gritty. Potato didn’t have much flavor. Very small portions. Very disappointed

I purchased the “Aldi’s Shepard pie” for the 1st time. Upon pulling it out of the box, I had high expectations. The mashed potatoes were beautifully decorated w/a dusting of paprika. I chose to use the microwave method. It still look wonderful and the smell was ok. Upon serving it…I found ABSOLUTELY no biscuit/breading..the “MEAT” filling was HORRENDOUS!! It was mostly liquid w/some chopped/minced meat pieces; that were approximately an inch in length. It reminded meat of Alpo dog food! The taste and the smell was the “WORST”…it also reminded me of “WET DOG FOOD”! I’ll NOT recommend this product, nor would I EVER purchase it again🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

I am very picky about this type of food because i have always loved cooking. I happened on the ALDI Brewers shepherd pie and it is so good. I had wished I had bought more than one at that time because 9 months until Aldi had in stock. Wonderful to have in your freezer.

Why would they put anchovies in beef shepherd’s pie? I could understand if it was an Asian food. My wife had it ready to eat when I noticed the anchovy notice on the package, she is allergic so she had to find something else to eat. I did not see any notices online if the allergy notices.

I’m going to have to try this, the smaller size is appealing. Costco makes a super good Shepherd’ Pie, but it’s more of an extended family size.
