Trader Joe’s – Cabot Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese – Food Review

This is a very nice cheese with a very good flavor. The cheese is sharp, but I wouldn’t call it extra sharp as the label does. The cheese is nicely aged to a crumbly consistency.  The cheese should be good for cooking as it melted nicely with a quick microwave test.  Per the label, the cheese is produced by a farmer’s cooperative, which is nice to know in this age of mega-scale industrial food production.  As a domestic cheese from the Northeast, it’s reasonably priced to boot.

Cabot cheese is so good! They make my favorite pepper jack by far (can’t remember if it’s a habanero style or not,) but makes your eyes water just the right amount, and yet doesn’t detract from the flavors it’s being paired with.

You might want to try this one from Trader Joe’s, Sriracha English Cheddar. Nice flavor and a bit of heat at the end.

I will definitely do that! Thanks kindly for the recommendation, didn’t even know they had that flavor, it’s right up my alley for a hot cheese, (as the way you described the heat). I’ll be stopping there in a few hours and picking some up. Not sure if you’ve had their siracha style potato chips, but those are relly good too, (as are the ghost pepper, not as hot as one might fear by the name).

Yep, I’ve had the chips. Very good. While not at Trader Joe’s, Red Hot Ripplets are my favorite hot chips. My ALDI sometimes has them. They bring a tear to the eye. The best part is going for all the spice that falls to the bottom of the bag.

I’ve never seen those, but I haven’t looked for them yet either, I’ll be getting those next time too, thanks again!!

The chips are locally produced. I’m not sure how widely they’re distributed to other ALDI stores, or any stores for that matter, out of the region.

Darn! That’s a great aspect of ALDI though, thanks for the heads up, may have to take the search online to see if they’re selling at a respectable price!

Yup, I’m guilty of cutting a corner of the bag with those chips and eagerly scarfing down every last bit of spice and heat too : )

Picke up $4.23 worth of that Siracha English Cheddar, and tested it out on a homemade chicken croissant, thanks again for the recommendation, wouldn’t have tried it without your review!

To quote Larry David, “Preetty, preeetty good.”

Glad you liked it. There are a couple of other cheddar mixtures on the shelf that are also pretty good, although without the kick.

Nice, going to have to peruse your posts in a few weeks, (and every few weeks therafter.) Always on the lookout for a new, delicious cheese!
