Trader Joe’s 100% Greek Kalamata Olive Oil – Food Review

by

Pretty bottle.  Pretty good.  Pretty expensive (relatively).

Once again the old olive oil bottle is dry.  It’s time to try a new olive oil.  The new one is Trader Joe’s 100% Greek Kalamata Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

It would be hard for anyone to complain about this olive oil.  This is another very fine Trader Joe’s olive oil.  Compared to my favorite, and many other people’s favorite, Trader Joe’s Spanish Extra Virgin Olive Oil, this Kalamata oil has just a slightly heavier taste at the back of the mouth.  But it’s nothing objectionable.  Otherwise it has an equally good deep color and nice creamy thick olive oil texture.  And just like the TJ Spanish variety, this one has a nice olive flavor.   I’ve tried it now for many of my normal dishes, including a balsamic vinaigrette dressing.  It works just fine.

However, TJ’s Spanish variety remains my number one choice simply because this Kalamata olive oil costs $3 more per liter than TJ’s Spanish olive oil.  Both are equally good.  Price triumphs again.

See also this link for a comparison with other Trader Joe’s olive oils.
